Fight Night

My friend Maria is moving to New York shortly, so she decided that before she moves she wanted to fight in an actual kickboxing match. She ask if i’d be interested in shooting some photos for her. I was all over it! Her friend Jamie was in the fight right after hers, and he asked me to shoot his fight as well.

What a fun night! As she was getting her hands taped up and getting ready for the fight i was getting butterflies in my stomach…..i can’t even imagine how she was feeling. Anyway, i had a great time shooting……..not to mention having the best spot in the house to watch the fights!  Maria and Jamie both kicked some ass!  Congrats on your wins!!

lisa - Spot on, Chris. The sharp colours are awesome and I love the motions (and emotions) you captured.

Jason - Nice shots! I can just imagine – there’s a chance I’ll be shooting at least part of TFC 8 in September and I’m excited at just the prospect, can’t imagine what’s going through the fighter’s minds. Any tips/pointers? What lens or lenses did you shoot with?

Chris - Thanks for the kind words!

Congrats on scoring the TFC gig, jason. My advice to you is to shoot manual, make sure you keep an eye on the metering for what you want in the photo….because the lighting conditions are very harsh and drastic. make sure you’re shooting with a fast enough shutter that you’re not blurring everything……..and most of all…..enjoy the best seat in the house!

i was shooting then entire event with my D700 and 24-70mm f2.8

Jason - Cool, that helps – was debating the 24-70 or the 70-200 guess that answered my question… it’ll be interesting trying to shoot through the cage though :)
